It is a drama but there are situations that are put in there that are sometimes amusing. More like a drama with, I'd say, more human comedy. Does this feel more like a sitcom or more like a drama when you're filming it? She's a hypochondriac, she's obviously not very secure, she's looking for attention and she's a certain age. I spoke to Matt Nix on the phone to get some instinct in what he wanted in the character and the one thing I did was I bought a wig (Laughs). He gave me a description of the character - she was a chain smoker, hypochondriac, highly manipulative so, in two scenes, I tried to get in as much as I could. It was supposed to be one day's work, which was spread out to two.

So what sorts of things did you do to get into character when this went to series? The person who carries it is Jeffrey Donovan and he does a great job and we're given wonderful material. I just thought it was very clever and very smart. If I had that ability, I'd be running a network (Laughs). You never know if something is going to be a hit. I swore I wouldn't play mothers, but they were very very interesting human beings.

It appealed to me because I thought the mother was very funny. I thought it was fun and very very clever and Matt Nix, who wrote it, was his first time out and he hit paydirt. Evelyn's real target was the boy's father. During the course of the investigation however, it was revealed that Evelyn is actually a hired assassin and the people who hired Evelyn killed the boy's mother. In exchange, Michael agreed to help Evelyn find her son. She also provided Michael with a new identity package so he can travel safely outside of Miami. Lucy was reluctant at first, but after some groveling, she handed Michael his first investigation job and a first step towards his newfound career in Miami. In order to efficiently investigate further into his burn notice, Michael needed to find an alternate source of income. Lucy warned Michael that when he was burned, his name turned up in every possible government list. When Michael returned to Miami, one of the first places he visited was Lucy Chen's security company. Otherwise, she kept her distance from him. Prior to Michael's return, Lucy worked with Sam Axe whenever it was necessary. Lucy trained under and worked with Michael Westen prior to his burn notice issuance. She is portrayed by China Chow in " Episode 101: Pilot" and " Episode 110: False Flag". She issues jobs to her investigators and sometimes will take on cases personally. Lucy Chen is a security consultant based in Miami. Of course they're not called "spies," they're called "security consultants."
